The largest betting company in the Czech Republic (Tipsport) caught in a lie during a court proceedings
The appellate court in Prague upheld the district court decision ruling in favor of our client against the biggest betting company in the country. The client placed a bet on the winner and yet the company cancelled the bet, returning him only the deposited funds. The company relied on the “sure bet” clause enabling betting companies to cancel bets when the odds guarantee certain profits when placed accordingly. However, our client placed only one bet, therefore there was no guarantee of profit. The courts ruled the “sure bet” clause to be null and void. When defending its position, the company reiterated it had automatic software in place to guarantee all bets get cancelled, regardless of their profitability to the company. However, the chief of the company’s risk department testified to the contrary, stating that only manual checks were carried out, citing profitable bets as being one of the red flags.
